The Italian law on immigration requires that non-EU citizens, planning to stay in Italy for more than 3 months, have to apply for the residence permit at any post office within 8 working days from their arrival in Italy.
(1) Requirements
-Application kit (take from any post office) Don’t worry about filling the application. Every university collaborated with immigration support services. They will help you.
-Your passport
-Your official Italian tax code
-SNN receipt (Buy Italian national health service (SNN) for one year at any post office (around 150 euro)
-University enrollment certificate
-Bank statement (around 6000 euro)
-Address in Italy -house contract
-€16 duty stamp ( marca da bollo, buy from tabaccheria)
(2) Submitting your application at the post office
- At the post, you have to pay the fee for the residence permit (around 100 euro)
- And the post office will give you a payment receipt with an appointment date at the immigration office(Questura)
- Keep the receipt with you all the time until you get the resident permit
(3) Appointment at the Questura
- bring the passport
- Receipt from the post office
- Passport-sized photos
(4) Collecting your residence permit
- Questura will notify you visa SMS when it is ready or you can check with mail tracking number via State Police website.
